QUARTERLY FEATURED MEMBER Meet The GW Murphy family The GW Murphy family of businesses, deeply rooted in hard work and family values, began with Gary Murphy Sr., who relocated from Louisiana to Northwest Indiana for a position at Globe Building Materials, a manufacturer of roofing materials. While there he received an introduction to roofing from his experience at Globe, Gary Murphy Sr was an entrepreneur at heart and opened his first location, Ray’s Roofing Supply in 1977. By his late 20s, Gary Sr. started the business as a one-man band. He was the owner, manager, salesman and driver. In a short period of time he made the leap, purchasing his first property in Hammond, Indiana, and expanded the business beyond residential shingles to include commercial roofing products.
